Daniel Drive Reconstruction

Daniel Drive is a well-traveled neighborhood route, especially for families walking to the nearby elementary school. Years of wear created ponding, pavement failures, and accessibility issues. Westra reshaped the corridor to improve safety, mobility, and drainage, completing the work within the school’s limited summer construction window.

The corridor’s deteriorated asphalt and grading issues required full reconstruction of 3,700 feet of roadway. With the school next door, the design needed to balance safety, schedule, and tight right–of–way constraints.

Engineering Response

Westra divided the design into two segments to meet budget, traffic, and schedule needs:

  • Southern Segment: 1,830 feet, 38–foot width, 7–inch concrete pavement
  •  Northern Segment: 1,860 feet, 41–foot width, 9–inch pavement for school–area traffic

Additional improvements included:

  • Concrete pavement and driveway reconstruction
  • ADA–compliant sidewalks and ramps
  • Reconstructed storm drain inlets
  • LED street lighting upgrades
  • Grade adjustments to remove ponding and improve performance

Threading a 41-foot collector into a 60-foot ROW required precision. Through split-curb layouts and careful sidewalk grading, Westra delivered a design that maintained accessibility and blended seamlessly with nearby homes. The improved Daniel Drive now offers a smoother, safer, and more reliable path for families and daily school traffic.
